What is Gold Filled?

14K gold-filled jewelry offers a durable and affordable alternative to solid gold. It consists of a thick layer of 14K gold (5% by weight) mechanically and heat-bonded to a jeweler’s brass core. This composition provides excellent tarnish resistance, making it safe to wear in water and easy to clean with polishing cloths. Gold-filled pieces are ideal for those with sensitive skin, except for individuals with gold allergies.

Everyone’s skin has a natural pH that can interact with gold filled jewelry. It could leave a black tint to the skin, this is harmless and a reaction. This can be intensified by lotions, oils, perfumes and humidity. To remove this discoloration wipe the area with rubbing alcohol or wash with soap. If you have a known brass allergy please be aware gold filled has a brass core that is bonded with 5% solid gold, but this can still cause a reaction. For those with sensitivities we recommend sterling silver or solid 14k gold jewelry.
